Shedding the Weight

10/11/2006

It ought to be so simple; it really ought to. There are just a few rules, logical and easy to understand. “Eat less; move more.” “Avoid empty calories.” Of course that’s the way to go. It’s scientific and incontestable if you know you’re overweight. And another of course: you want to be healthy. You want to be thinner, more attractive and athletic. Actually, you want it badly.

So why do we so often fail? Why do we break the rules that are our guides and friends?

It’s almost as though you can watch yourself in horror as you approach the fast food chain store or the ice cream counter. You just go in and buy the very thing you don’t really want to buy and eat. It’s as though “you” are not in charge at all.

And that’s the key; because of course you are a very complex being, so complex that there is in a sense more than one “you.” This may sound a little creepy, but I don’t mean that you are a victim of multi-personality disorder or anything. I just mean that there are so many forces at work in you, past and present, that logic doesn’t always win out.

In my experience, the best, the only way to empower that thin person longing to get out is to get her (or him) some outside back-up. The thin you is always the you that wants to live better, more fully, more happily, more authentically. That is why I am writing this testimonial. I found that when Kim Knight promised that she would help me to become the person I wanted to be, she did. I am not at the end of that journey yet because life never stops unfolding, but I am much further along the road than I would have been without her. I know this because I know how long I was stuck in one place and at one weight.
